Manic Monday – I Want The Blessing
Hey there this is Pastor Brad with another Manic Monday. Today I want to address the issue of I want God’s blessings but I don’t necessarily want Him. I think if we are honest we would say of course we all want God to bless us. It would be foolish on our part to say I don’t really care if He blesses me or not. So lets say we all want His blessings in our life, but can we honestly say we want Him too. Because when He comes with the blessings so do requirements. You see it’s time that we start being honest about what it’s like to have a true relationship with God.
First of all the only way to have that relationship with God is through His Son Jesus. You see God said In John 14:6 that Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. No one can get to the Father apart from Him. So that relationship has to be established with and through Jesus. We all want to enjoy this life because we don’t know how much time we have. We want to enjoy time with our children because they won’t be at home forever, or you better hope not. We all want to enjoy our time away from work. We want to enjoy or recreation time. We want to enjoy our family time. We all want these things, and guess what? God wants us to enjoy all these things too. He created all these things for our pleasure, but if I am being honest we have abused these pleasures. We have put these things before God, and do know we will pay the price for putting His creation above the Creator. Exodus 20:5 reminds us that our God is a jealous God. To not put anything before Him, and we are all guilty of doing such. So I say all that to say we want the blessing but we don’t have time for the Blesser. We have time for everything else but Him, and yet we want His blessings. We want His favor. All the while we are just living our life and maybe when we lie down at night we pray the Lord our soul to keep.
Think about it for a moment. If you have children do you want them to spend time with you because they want to or because they feel like they just have to? What if they never came by the house to see you and just spend time with you? Would you feel like they truly loved you? What if they hang out with you just so they can get things? How would that make you feel? It would suck. Let’s just call it like it is. We would be upset. And yet we treat God, whom we say we love and follow like this all the time and not give a second thought to it. Shame on us. It’s time to get back to wanting the Blesser more than the blessing. All of us. As I write this I am listening to “Nothing Else” by Cody Carnes. What a beautiful reminder that we should all desire that time with our Savior. Jesus may I want for nothing else but Your Presence.
